Here's a summary of the anime!
*Spoiler Alert!*
When she arrives back in Konan, she finds that months have passed in the book in comparison to the few hours she had spent in her world. She goes looking for Tamahome, once she finds that he had gone out to do a job for some money. She and Nuriko find him protecting a village for pay, but then Miaka is kidnapped by a pair of phantom hands. She finds that she was taken by Chichiri and that he had saved her from an assassin attack. Tamahome and Miaka learn that Chichiri is one of the Suzaku seven when the symbol is revealed on his knee while he is defending Miaka once again. Miaka ends up in Tamahome's village, and meets Tamahome's family (ill father, brother, and sisters) whom he supports with the money he gets.
She decides that since Tamahome has a family to be there for, she doesn't want him risking his life to protect her. She then finds that Yui is in Kouto, an enemy land, and goes there by herself to try to save her. She is followed by Tamahome and Chichiri. Miaka has a happy reunion with Yui at first, but that soon turns cold when Yui overhears Miaka telling Tamahome that she came back for him, and sees them kiss. She becomes jealous and furious.
Yui betrays Miaka and decides to become the priestess of Seiryuu. Tamahome and Chichiri break in and save Miaka, and Chichiri transports them to Mt. Taikyoku. There, Miaka learns that Yui was raped and cries for her, understanding why she is so hurt. She tries once again to reach out to Yui, but Yui doesn't respond, so Miaka decides to find the rest of the Suzaku seven in order to summon Suzaku and wish for Yui to be returned to her. Tamahome finally admits to Miaka that he loves her and he wants to protect her always. Hotohori overhears and confronts Tamahome because he loves Miaka too. Hotohori grudgingly lets Tamahome go because he is one of the Suzaku seven. Yui decides she loves Tamahome, so Nakago gives Tamahome an ultimatum. If he becomes their hostage, they won't wage war on Konan.
Forced to become a prisoner of Kutou in exchange for peace, Tamahome leaves a note for Miaka to find the rest of the Suzaku seven, and he will escape back to her then. Yui tries to convince Tamahome to love her, but he stays true to Miaka. Meanwhile Miaka searches for the rest of the suzaku seven. Miaka, Hotohori, and Nuriko go out in search of the rest of the Suzaku seven and are captured by a gang of bandits. Miaka is kidnapped by a former member of the gang, Tasuki. She agrees to help him steal back his flame throwing fan, and they succeed, so he lets her go. Later, Miaka, Nuriko, and Hotohori are attacked in the forest, and Tasuki shows up to save them. He reveals the symbol on his arm, identifying him as the fifth member of the Suzaku seven.
Miaka gets sick with a plague from a town they had just visited so they go back to seek the help of a woman there, who can bring the dead back to life. Refusing to put Miaka out of her misery and kill her, they seek out a reclusive doctor on the outskirts of town, named Mitsukake. Mitsukake at first refuses to help them, however, later ends up saving Miaka from the imposter healer who turns out to be his long dead girlfriend who had let a demon take over her body. Mitsukake sets her spirit free by destroying the demon, and also heals Miaka. Miaka notices the symbol on his hand and he is revealed as the sixth of the suzaku seven.
Some time later, in the woods, Miaka is attacked by bats, and saved by a boy with a flute, named Amiboshi. He tells them he is one of the suzaku seven, and they think they have finally found all seven warriors. Tamahome finds this out and arranges to meet Miaka and sneak back to Konan, but Yui overhears Tamahome's plan and gives him some kodoku poison, which makes him loose all his memories and changes his personality to evil. He turns against Miaka and treats her badly. Miaka and the two warriors she had brought with her end up escaping, but Miaka is heartbroken, and says goodbye to Tamahome as she leaves.
Hotohori tries to get Miaka to accept him instead, and she almost does, but then Tamahome shows up to try and assassinate Miaka. Hotohori impales Tamahome, and just before death, he is released from the potion's spell with Miaka's love for him, becoming himself again. Mitsukake heals him and Miaka and Tamahome are reunited. The Suzaku seven, and Miaka, gather together to perform the ceremony to summon Suzaku, but it doesn't work.
