OVA I
*Spoiler Alert!*
The OAV's take place directly after the continuity of the TV series. The first OVA does not appear in the regular manga like all the other episodes do, and is meant as an "in between" series that connects the end of the TV series with the beginning of OAV II. This is due to a difference in the ending of the TV series that seemed to necessitate the creation of an "in between" series. Also, it seems that this OVA is packaged along with the second OVA. Anyway, this OVA has 3 episodes: Lost Ties; Sorrowful Flash; Parting... And Then.
Miaka and Tamahome are together and at peace in Miaka's world. When they go to visit the priestess of Genbu's grave, Tamahome hears the priestess of Genbu calling for him to save her from disappearing and he is pulled back into the universe of the four gods.
There, he finds that he is no longer welcome where he once was, and is convinced by a woman, Caren, that he is actually Nakago, rather than Tamahome. Miserable, he drinks wine to lessen pain. Little does he know, the wine is poisoned by kodoku. It turns out Tomo has him in an illusion. Chichiri and Tasuki show up and find Tamahome passed out from the poison.
In the real world, Miaka and Yui find that the universe of the four gods has been stolen from the library, and a new priestess is being called. They fear that they will disappear too. Yui ends up with the book, and is drawn into it by Genbu's power. Nakago shows up to take his earring back from Yui, and attacks Tomo for disturbing his sleep. Tomo disappears, fleeing to his master, Tenkou. Tenkou kills Tomo because he has no more use for him.
Back with Tamahome, Chichiri wonders about Nakago, while Tasuki just wants to attack him. Taiiskun appears and asks Nakago if he will help them. He tells them that Tamahome was poisoned with many doses of kodoku, and that there is nothing to be done for him. Suboshi is there too, comforting Yui.
In the real world, Miaka goes looking for Yui, and finds that she has gone back into the book. She dresses in her school uniform and follows her into the book.
Miaka arrives to see all 7 of her suzaku warriors gathered again (the ones that had died are spirits). Tenkou shows up and captures Yui. He asks Nakago if he will once again serve him. Nakago declines and disappears. Taiitscun calls Tenkou a devil. He attacks them, but a Nyan Nyan shows up just in time to save them. She surrounds Miaka and Tamahome with a barier in order to protect them while Miaka tries to bring Tamahome back to health. The others try to attack Tenkou, but are afraid of hurting Yui in the process. Suboshi jumps in and saves Yui at the cost of his life. Miaka is finally able to bring Tamahome back. The priestess of Genbu speaks to Yui and tells her to summon Genbu to make things right, since she was too weak to withhold the god's power... but Yui is stronger. Yui summons Genbu and makes her first wish to seal Tenkou away. Her second wish is to restore the priestess of Genbu to her former role (she restores the integrity of the previous story of the book). All is now safe, but Taiiskun tells Miaka that she and Tamahome can't be together because they are from different worlds. Miaka cries, and pleads, to no avail. She hugs Tamahome and he gives her the ring back. Miaka finally goes to join Yui. Yui makes the third wish to separate the two worlds forever and Miaka and Yui are sent home. On the way, Yui drops the ring, and tells it to go where it belongs.
Miaka and Yui are back in every-day life at high school, and decide to skip school together. Back in the book, Tamahome let Taiiscun seal all his memories into 7 gems of memory. He was sent to be reborn into Miaka's world to try and find her so they can be together. Reborn as Taka, he has no memories of his past in the book, but he knows he is searching for his lost love, and wears the ring Miaka had given Tamahome around his neck. Miaka and Yui are in a restaurant, and Taka is seen as a waiter in that very restaurant...
