The Fushigi Yuugi novels were planned and illustrated by Watase Yuu, but they were actually written by Nishizaki Megumi. Novels 1-6, and 9-11 deepen into the stories of some of our favorite characters, while novels 7 and 8 are a continuation to the manga. Novels 12 and 13 are a prequel to the second part of the manga.

About: Tasuki novel named "Genrou den (The Legend of Genrou)" came out on Jan. 30, 1998. This is not from the manga series but a side story of Fushigi Yuugi talking about Tasuki's past at Mt. Reikaku. In the story, Tasuki is 15-16 years old. Tasuki joins the bandits, meets their leader Hakuro and becomes friends with Kouji. Besides the cover, there're 14 illustrations by Watase-sensei in the book.

Ougi 19 years old. The lord of the Souun castle and the older brother of the Kounan Country Emperor, Saihitei. A kind and gentle man. He falls in love with Kyouan who he met in town.
Kyouan A beautiful flower selling woman. She steals Ougi's heart with those good looks but...!?
Reirei 14 years old. A girl who is beloved by Keiron. Kidnapped by Genrou and Kouji, she comes to Mt. Reikaku but......!?
Keiron 28 years old. Leader of the Mt. Kaou bandits, he has the power to oppose the Mt. Reikaku bandits.

About: Chichiri novel, "Shouryuu den" (the legend of Shouryuu), just come out on July 23, 1998. The story covers Chichiri's past for three years, from three years after the flood to when he meets Suzaku no Miko. So the times in it overlaps with the manga vol. 1-2. "Shouryuu" is a village's name in the story, it would mean "going up/soaring dragon". It's how Chichiri tries to get over the death of his girlfriend and his best friend and discovers he is a Seishi.
