Places of Importance
Here are some of the important places in the whole Fushigi Yuugi. I would like to specifically thank Miaka no Seishin for most of the wonderful pics I used here! I've been looking for them for quite a while now... lol! ^_^
Hokkan
Genbu is the god of Hokkan, which is the biggest of the four countries and it consists of mountainous ranges, and sweeping valleys. Hokkan is known for its colder weather, and nomadic shepherds.
This was the first place that a priestess came to from the real world. This land is protected from invasion by the Priestess of Genbu's wish, and her shinzaho, an item that has high spiritual energy.
Konan
Suzaku is the god of Konan, the most diverse of the countries. Konan is, for the most part, a flat desert, but further to the west it has more grassland with rivers and lakes, while further to the east it has more forest, and some areas have mountains.
Konan is the land that Miaka and Yui both end up in when they both first visit the world of the book. The southern land of Konan is ruled by the young but much-loved Emperor Saihitei (Hotohori).
Kutou
Kutou, the country of the Blue Dragon Seiryu, is made up of prairies and grasslands and tends to get warmer weather. Along the border to the west are some forests that gradually goes south.
Kutou has a history of conflict. They were the ones invading Hokkan when the Priestess of Genbu arrived, and are also responsible for the planned attack on the country of Konan, home of the worshippers of Suzaku. Ruled by a ruthless emperor bent on conquest, the blue-clad warriors of Kutou are harsh and aggressive in their actions.
Sairou
Sairou is dry and almost desert-like in the north, but the more south the country slowly has forests, and some areas have rocky shields. Vegetation is usually at it's height in fall when people harvest.
This somewhat mountainous and desert-filled land is the home to the followers of Byakko, the White Tiger of the West. This was the second place to receive the gift of a priestess from another world. It is unclear what kind of trends typify this land, though among the Byakko Seven, age appears to be a consistent theme (Byakko Seven member Tatara stopped himself from aging in appearance while Subaru and Tokaki, also warriors, have had their skills diminish to nothing in their old age).
Mt. Reikaku
A mountain located in the land of Konan, this rock serves as the base of operations for the Mt. Reikaku Bandits and is a point of travel for the villages that surround it. Tasuki of course makes his home here, and Mitsukake's village is also nearby in the area.
Mt. Taikyoku
The home of Taiitsukun, the powerful sorceress and ally of the Suzaku Seven. Surrounded in mystery, it is said that anyone with evil intent in their heart or associated with those with such intent will not be able to see the true mountain, and will only see a storm. On its peak, the house of Taiitsukun holds quite a few wonders, especially Nyan-Nyan, who serves as Taiitsukun's servant. Chichiri also trained here to be a sorcerer.
Nyosei Country
A solitary island surrounded by mountains and forests far away from inhabited localities. A nation ruled by women. Be warned that men who come here meet a frightening fate. You can get to Hokkan Country through the western castle wall.
