Suzaku Seishis
The Suzaku Seishi are 7 (star, or 'celestial') warriors named after the seven constellations of the southern sky. Altogether, they are ruled by the God Suzaku. Each Seishi has a different symbol on his or her body.
Each of the Suzaku Seishi have one of these symbols on their body. In order they are (from the left to right - chinese/japanese counterpart-"meaning" (Seishi Name): Ki / Oni - "Demon" (Tamahome), Sei / Hoshi - "Star" (Hotohori), Yanagi - "Willow" (Nuriko), Sho (Chichiri), Yoku / Tsubasa - "Wings" (Tasuki), Shin - "To be sad" (Mitsukake), and Cho - "Outspread net" (Chiriko).

Tamahome

The first seishi to be found, Tamahome (Sou Kishuku) is one of the most important characters in Fushigi Yuugi. At first he seems selfish and greedy on the outside, but Tama's financial efforts actually lead to a good cause. He lives in Hakko village with his family and is the oldest of five siblings; two younger brothers (Shunkei and Chuei) and two younger sisters(Gyokuran and Yuiren). His mother died when he was twelve years old and his father has recently become ill. Tamahome fights thieves for money to provide food and clothing for his poor family. When he meets Miaka, his love for her overcomes his love of money as he continues to protect her throughout the series. His star pattern is the crab (cancer) and he was born on June 28. His symbol is found on his forehead.
Of all the Suzaku Seven, Tamahome is the only one without a special item granted to him by the mystical and powerful sorceress Taiitsukun. Two possible reasons are attributed to this - first, Taiitsukun may have just done it to spite Tamahome, who has been the most vocal about Taiitsukun's rather unattractive appearance. The second, and more likely, was that she saw the great fighting potential in him and simply saw that he didn't need a magical item to enhance that. Tamahome's martial arts skills are just about without peer, but bringing his Suzaku Seven powers into play makes him even more powerful. His red energy blast manifests itself when he is at full power, and like Nakago's life force blast, is very effective against enemies.
Hotohori

Hotohori or Saihitei Seishukui is the young emperor of Konan Country which he rules fairly and justly. As both of his parents are deceased, his advisors take care of his every need. Hotohori had been told of "Suzaku no Miko" when he was a small child and has yearned to love that woman who would be "Suzaku no Miko". He has an uncanny way of admiring himself and is quite the narcissist. Hotohori finds himself also in love with Miaka and tries to win her, but finds that the love between Tamahome and Miaka is much stronger. He is truly the most kind-hearted and gentle of the Suzaku Seishi, though not one to be underestimated in physical nor political power. He was bord on April 2 in Eiyo, Konan. He has 2 older brothers, 1 younger brother and 2 sisters all from different mothers. His symbol is located on the left side of his neck and his star pattern is the sea serpent (Hydra).
Having been trained from a young age about fighting, the emperor of Konan is very skilled with the sword, and his ferocity and determination in battle tempers his naturally kind and gentle attitude. Taiitsukun enhanced Hotohori's sword, turning it into a holy sword that has the ability to block magic and lash out with some of its own. Miaka once used this sword to defend herself against Soi, with good results.
Nuriko

Nuriko (Ryuuen Chou) is always in fashion and dresses in the finest clothes. She always tries to find ways for Hotohori to fall in love with her, but Hotohori is probably already in love with himself. Nuriko has superhuman strength and a short temper, particularly with Miaka. Seemingly very annoying and self-centered at first, Nuriko turns out to actually be as deep and misunderstood as gentle Hotohori, the seishi whom Nuriko initially claims to Miaka he 'gave up his manlihood for in the path of love.' Nuriko is a sweet, slightly eccentric character with the heart of a woman, the strength of a man ~ and a delightful sense of humor. Nuriko's feminine nature is a reflection of the love and memory of his sister, Korin. Despite popular belief, folks, Nuriko is not gay. He was born in Eiyo on March 10 and his symbol is found on his left breast.
Nuriko is an open-handed fighter like Tamahome, but his superhuman strength enhances his already high skill in the martial arts. Able to lift and throw rocks, bodies, and even concrete with a minimum of effort, Nuriko's strength is even more effective against an enemy. Taiitsukun gave Nuriko some holy bracelets that morph into gauntlets when he is fighting. These further enhance Nuriko's already incredible natural strength, giving him an even bigger strength advantage in battle.
Chichiri

Born on May 21st at Shouryuu, Chichiri (Houjun Ri), or "Kitsune-san" as Miaka calls him at first, is a monk who has been trained in magic by Taiitsu-kun. He is a very mischievious fellow and uses his magic freely. Chichiri wears a mask with a smiling face because his real face bears a striking scar across his left eye. He talks in a high-pitched voice most of the time, often ending his statements with "no da" (intended to be a regional dialectic affectation). His past is even more mysterious. He is a lovable blue haired (blonde in the manga) mage, who is the oldest of the Suzaku Seishi. His star pattern is Gemini and his symbol appears on his left knee.
As a magician, Chichiri is not much of a melee fighter, though he can do some physical attacks if need be. Chichiri's main weapons are his magic, channeled through his ki, staff, and beaded necklace. Chichiri has been seen to perform teleportation, cast magical shields and barriers, and manipulate objects around him. Chichiri's training under the powerful Taiitsukun has already made him strong, and Taiitsukun's enhancement of Chichiri's beaded necklace gives him the power to do even more powerful spells.
Tasuki

Born on April 18 at Mt. Reikaku in Koshu taito, Tasuki or Kou Shunu is the orange haired wild one of Fushigi Yuugi whose iron fan is capable of charring all who stand in his way to a cinder. His younger brother, Gouji, plans a lot of schemes with him. By using his Halisen, or Iron Fan, as a weapon with a summoning yell of "Rekka Shinen!" Tasuki can burn anything to a crisp. Unfortunately for Tamahome, this often includes him as he always seems to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. Tasuki is also heir to be the rightful Leader of the Thieves of Mt. Reikaku. Though impudent and rude, he is a very caring young man who will fight for what he believes is right. Tasuki is a mountain man who likes to hang with his bandits friends, particularly Kouji, a blu-ish haired young man with a scar on his face, who is also voiced by Seki Tomokazu (Chichiri's seiyuu). Tasuki claims he hates women, as he did grow up in a female dominated family, but his claims are not entirely true. Like the rest of the seishi, he risks his life to protect the Suzaku no Miko, Miaka. His symbol is found on his right forearm and his star patter in The cup (Crater).
Tasuki is a fairly decent hand to hand fighter, probably learned from his days as a bandit, and he has a good understanding of sword fighting and weapons as well. His weapon even in physical combat is his tessen (diamond fan), and its sharp blades can bash or pierce with equal efficiency. The tessen has the natural ability to throw fire (the Rekka Shinen technique) as well, and serves as a good ranged weapon, something which Tasuki has used to full advantage. Taiitsukun changed and enhanced the tessen's material, making it into diamond instead of iron, to increase its durability and efficiency.
Mitsukake

Mitsukake, also known as Myojuan, is a healer by trade, using his power given to him by Suzaku to heal others. He was bethrothed to Shoka, a landowner's daughter, in thanks for his services. Mitsukake is a quiet man who keeps to himself most of the time and cares for his pet cat, Tama-chan. His Star Pattern is Corvus and his symbol is found on the palm of his left hand. His birthday is on May 7.
Mitsukake is not a fighter by trade, though he does have a small amount of fighting ability. He mostly is a utility person in battle, and heals those who are wounded using his power, a trait that is invaluable to those doing the fighting. The healing jar that Taiitsukun gives him makes his healing power even more effective, as the holy water inside serves as a further enhancement of Mitsukake's already great power.
Chiriko

Born on March 19 in Jouzen-shi. Western Konan, Chiriko (Qu Doukun) is the youngest citizen to pass the government board of Konan Country, has a magnificent mind, but is still a child at heart. He loves to read and research problems. He is the absolute smartest of the Seishi, not to mention the smartest of his entire generation. At the age of 13, this little guy has been studying to get into some secret branch of government! His Star pattern is Hydra an his symbol is found on his left foot.
Chiriko is not a physical fighter at all - his small size and non-combative Suzaku power (intelligence) is not one that is directly related to fighting. However, he has tactical genius that helps in certain situations, and the magic scroll that Taiitsukun gives Chiriko has a fair amount of spiritual energy and power, with the ability to seal enemies or provide a spiritual enhancement to a magical barrier.
